Jack Reilly's book "The Harmony of Bill Evans"

Lately I’ve been listening to , researching, and studying two incredible series of Bill Evans, Fantasy Records CD’s: “The Last Waltz” and “Consecration.” Each 8-CD series was recorded at the Keystone Corner in San Francisco just before Bill died. They contain some of the most powerful and stunning piano playing I’ve ever heard. They are a must for any musicians record collection!

As part of my research I’ve been in touch with many Evans scholars and in the process learned about pianist Jack Rielly’s book “The Harmony of Bill Evans” published by Hal Leonard ($17.95).

Although Jack never studied with Bill, his analysis offers a clear and individual insight into the way Bill Evans may have conceptualized his harmonics.

Mr. Rielly has made an important contribution to the lexicon of jazz piano pedagogy. Any Evans fan who doesn’t have this book is missing something.
